can't restore DB

2 DB's at 5431 postgres & PTPGSQL1. PTPGSQL1 is not linked to PT. This is the one I want to restore. And because it isn't linked to PT I can't do anything with it. So how do I link it to PT or is there anyway I can just move this to 8.3?

If you see it in pgAdmin then you should see it in PT.

Go to the Utilities > PostgreSQL Settings window.

You should have 2 entries on the window.

port 5431 - localhost - postgres - <password> - PostgreSQL Unicode and UNICODE
port 5432 - localhost - postgres - <password> - PostgreSQL Unicode and UNICODE

Is this what you have??

If it is, you should be able to go to the File > Maintain Database Names window, click the Add button and in the last field pick "Select existing PostgreSQL database" from the list.

On the window that opens, you should see the PTPGSQL1 for port 5431 (postgres is a system db, that one won't show) along with some of the db's from port 5432. If there are a lot of them then scroll down the list, that db should be in that list for you to select.

Now when I click restore it tells me PTPGSQL1 already exists do I want to restore over the existing data. Now where is the PTPGSQL1 name coming from w/i PT the name column or the DB File/DB name/DSN column?

If you were able to select that database and create an entry for it on the File > Maintain Database Names window, why are you trying to restore it again??

I would appreciate if you could give more details than just one sentence to what you are doing because I cannot understand what that is.

Let's start all over again.
I reformatted my computer.
I backed up my data prior to doing the reformat.
I tried to restore backed up DB.
It now tells me that I will over right DB named PTPGSQL1.
Is the naqme PTPGSQL1that the retore DB is refering to the PTPGSQL1 that is listed in the name column or the DB file/DB name/DSN column. If it is the DSN column I don't want to restore into PTPGSQL1. But if it is the name column then I can. Now if it is the DSN column how can I get the restore to resoter to a different name?

And in answer to the above question I can create tons of DB's but it doesn't mean there is any data in one. So of course if one is empty I might want to input old data into an empty DB. Restore is the ONLY way I know how it can be done.

Now on another note. I had ALL hand history b4 reformat in 1 DB. I have since created a few, i.e. FT tourney hands, FT cash hands, PS tourney hands, etc. Once the old data goes into 8.3 & linked to PT, anyway I can seperate out the old hand history data into the appropriate new DB's. If so, how, explicilty explained please.

If I can't does PT automatically look at all the DB's to pull the info I want in live tracker or does it only pull from the DB(s) I manually open?

Yes, it's going to overwrite that database with the data you have in the restore file. So if the PTPGSQL1 currently has some data in it that is not in the restore file then that data is going to be lost if you do a restore. So if the restore file is empty, then after you restore PTPGSQL1 is going to be empty.

PokerAce does pull from any number of databases, they don't have to be open in PT. You just have to tell it which ones to use on the configuration window of PokerAce

Is this what you are talking about?? If so, what exactly do you mean. I don't understand because your sentences are not exactly easy to read.

Are you talking about being able to export the data from this 1 large DB and importing that data into these other dbs???

If so, then you need to use the Utilties > Export Hand Histories To File window. You can set filters there for what types of hands you want to export.

Then you can reimport those files into the other database using the File > Auto-Import... > Generic Setup window.
