Purging help

Postby chuckk » Tue Mar 25, 2008 7:14 pm

I am using advanced purge to delete hands over 6 months old. I am trying to free up some hard drive space, however when purge completes I do not get any extra space on my hard drive.
FYI... I have purged over 3 million hands without any increase in hard drive space. and all of these hands had the hand histories stored. Is the purge also deleting the hand histories?

Please advise,

thanks,

Chuck

Are you compacting the database (Access) or doing a FULL vacuum/analyze (PostgreSQL) after you do this? If not, you need to be.

The advanced purge doesn't touch the hand histories.

There isn't a way to do this in PT. Are you using an Access or PostgreSQL database?

Use the Utilities > PostgreSQL Database Functions window to do a backup of this database. Let me know the size of the .backup file that gets created.

I created the backup file and it is 2.48 gigs. It contains the last 6 months of datamined hands.

Wow, that's huge. Did you do a full vacuum analyze on it first?

I will PM you with directions on how to send that file to me and I'll run a SQL script to purge from the hand histories table those hands that no longer exist and send it back to you.
