CPU usage of pokertracker.exe

Postby Kadavreski » Sat Dec 03, 2011 1:54 pm

Hi,

The cpu usage of pokertracker.exe reached 50% while i was just playing 4 MTT's of 180 players, then it slowed down a bit to 25/30% but still here is my main problem. Since a while i can't barely multi-table as i would like to do because of freezings and slows due to my cpu's overheat.

Don't really know what to do about it? Could it be cuz my database has been running to big or because i import tournament summaries aswell?

What site(s) do you play at? Different poker rooms' software causes different system loads, and because PT3 interacts with them you can sometimes see heavier loads.
What are your system specs? (CPU, RAM, hard disk speed and size, etc.) An application like Speccy will tell you this information if you're not sure.

That sort of load shouldn't actually cause any problems with your CPU. If you have a large database then your slower hard disk could cause some delays when multi-tabling as PostgreSQL does a lot of disk access.
Are you actually noticing performance problems, or just 50% CPU usage?

Nop, my CPU usage rises nearly 99% usage but pokertracker.exe is something like 30 % part of it and postgre 15 %, when pokerstars.exe is between 5 and 6 %. Everything runs slow and i can play but conditions are bad and i think it cuts some EV from my gaming. :s

Usually i play 8 tables SNG FR at once and things start to run bad at this point. There are no other performance problems when i run all the softwares, just the CPU i guess. I'm really sick of it.

I had a message from one of our development team saying that with that kind of specs he'd expect 4 tables to be about the maximum you could expect to run. Sorry for the confusion.

Damn, didn't expect pokertracker to use so much resources, am so disappointed cuz multi-tabling was meant to be the basis of my gaming :s
whatever, tanks for infos.

Couldnt the load be reduced with setting? Like reducing stats or lowering the refesh rates? What processes use up most of the resources in PT3?

Kadavreski
You have killed all unnecessary processes while playing right?

You can improve performance somewhat by tuning PostgreSQL and setting HUD Options, but there is a limit to what that kind of processor can handle.
See the FAQ: PT3 HUD for tuning tips, but don't expect miracles. ;)

What processes use up the most resources? Is it the autoimport or HUD stats? Meaning that is the HUD takes like 60% then by having half of the stats you free 30% of all resources? Or does the most go to building the database and then getting the HUD stats from it is small?

On a related note. When building columns Ive been wondering how much they affect the speed. I remember that hand ranking check used to be much slower then say open_opp check. If there is remarkable difference in the speed then I should place the fastest checks first, right?
