Unable to login to database

Postby HermannTL » Thu Nov 17, 2011 8:17 pm

Hi. I'm having an annoying problem since upgrading to the latest Beta version. About 50% of the time when I try to log in I get the following:

[ img ]

I click Cancel, and then there's another dialog box asking me if I want to continue, so I say "No." Then the PT3 oval appears in the middle of the screen and remains there.

When I go into Task Manager there are no applications running, but there are 8 processes that I identify with PT3: 6 entries of postgres.exe, pg_ctl.exe, and PokerTracker.exe. Typically I then reboot the computer to clear everything out, and then I relaunch PT3 with logging enabled. It then works fine (naturally!)

I was not having the problem before the recent upgrade. The computer is Windows XP, Service Pack 3.

There seems to be a minor issue with the time that PT3 waits for the PostgreSQL service to start up in the latest beta. If you click "Cancel" and then "Yes" to proceed anyway on the next message box is should start up OK. The development team are discussing this.
In the meantime if you configure the PostgreSQL service to start automatically when you boot up it should avoid this issue. Click Start, Run and type services.msc. To do that find PostgreSQL in the list and right click, choose Properties and change the startup type to Automatic.

Thanks. I'll try the Cancel/Yes approach for now since I don't always want to have the service running.
