Hi,

My PT3 database contains 750k hands, so whilst not ginormous, it’s not small either. In the past I experimented with breaking it up into smaller chunks. However, I do use your software for reporting and analysis, rather than merely as a HUD and soon found that when it comes to running specific queries for hands and situations, you can never have too much data, indeed it’s difficult to ever have enough. Soon I went back using one all encompassing DB, as I found that splitting it and then recombining every few days was just not worth the hassle.

However I am currently playing at OnGame and experiencing frequent time-outs, or disconnections. I suspect the problem is some part my Internet connection, most likely the part at their end. However, I wanted your opinion as to whether it would be conceivable that reducing the size of my PT3 DB would help, or provided that I run regular maintenance and keep the cache up-to-date would it make no difference?

As long as the cache is at 100% (see the status bar at the bottom of PT3) then I wouldn't expect that to cause any problems, and if you're getting disconnections that wouldn't be affected by the database size. If you were getting timed out because your computer froze temporarily, preventing you from acting, then it could be related.
If you haven't already, you may want to consider experimenting with some PostgreSQL tuning - there are links to tips and guides in the FAQ: PT3 HUD and Database / PostgreSQL FAQ. If you haven't done any tuning it is possible to get significant gains in performance with a little work.
