PT not working on new Macbook

Postby Shelldonahue » Tue Jul 26, 2011 7:23 pm

I just got a new Macbook. When I bought it I took in my iMac with PT on the system, and had all of my programs/data transferred from the iMac to the laptop.

Ever since this happened PT has not run on the Macbook. When I open it up it says it cannot connect with a PostgreSQL server. I have tried uninstalling PostgreSQL and PT. I reinstalled PT and the d/l screen for PostgreSQL has not popped up. The only screen that has popped up is the connection screen for the PostgreSQL servers. How can I fix this?

What OS do you have on the new laptop? There are problems installing PostgreSQL on the new Lion OS at the moment - see this thread for a workaround.

If you don't have Lion the issue is probably that PostgreSQL isn't installed - you will need to install it manually as once it's been installed PT3 will not install it again.
You can get the installer from www.PostgreSQL.org/download. Be sure to install the same major version as you had before in order to be able to connect to your existing databases - that was probably 8.4 if it was installed by PT3 in the first place.
(If you made a Backup of your databases before transferring then you can restore the backup into any version.)
When you install follow the steps in the PostgreSQL install guide in the Documentation to retain your existing databases. These guides are based on Windows, but the steps in the PostgreSQL installer should be basically the same.
