PT3 Trial

Postby kingcobrapoker » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:55 pm

Downloaded the PT3 trial yesterday, been using HM since it first came out, and I'd been looking forward to HM2 which I tried out but ended up being disappointed. I was thinking, man wouldn't it be nice to get the stats I want in a HUD rather than use the active player window, which is nice but didn't really have everything I wanted anyway, and the HUD stats in HM1 are useless to me.

However, in HM2 they actually have stats broken down by position (OOP and IP) in their HUD now, I've no idea how anyone can play with averaged stats which don't account for position, and this is even more important in HU which is my game. I saw all the c bet and vs, c bet stats and you can get pretty much everything you need broken down. However, they totally missed stats for limped pots, and don't have general stats like bet raise check call fold OOP and IP either. They also took away the active player window in this feature so I'm left in the dark when it comes to getting post flop stats in limped pots.

So screw them, let's try out PT3, I've always heard that you can design your own stats, that could be pretty damn exciting depending on the limitations of that.

The first problem I ran into is that I couldn't get beyond the opening screen, due to not being able to connect to my postgre server. I posted it to the forum here and couldn't get any help, if you guys ever plan on converting HM users it might be a good idea to get this figured out. Many people are just going to give up here and go back to HM. Anyway, I got the fix from HM and set the postgre login to accept any password and that fixed it.

So I finally get PT3 up and running so to speak, the database is totally screwed up and only imports a couple of thousand hands from one site from among the couple of million I have across several poker rooms. I don't care, that's not why I'm trying this out, I want to see what I can do with designing my own stats and if I can get what I want I'm buying this and switching to it in a flash.

So I then find out that the trial version has limited functionality and one of the things you can't do with it is design custom stats. So that's the end of the line for me, there's no way I'm buying this just to see if it's any good to me. This is absolute stupidity, if you want to let people try something out you need to give them a fully functional version.

So I wanted to pass that along, I'm headed back to HM for good now, and I'll have to find workarounds for the missing stats such as treating leads OOP in limped pots as donk bets and bets and raises IP in limped pots the same way as c bets. This isn't that big of a deal, but I'm pretty disappointed that I couldn't test out some of my stat ideas and quite possibly come up with some real interesting and useful stuff.

Overall though it might be just as well as this appears to me to be an inferior product overall, although I would have liked to really try it out and find out what it really could have done.

We're currently working towards a public beta version of PT4 and when that is available you will be able to experiment with custom stats.
There are very few restrictions in the trial of PT3, but custom stats is one of them. You can see examples of stats we and our users have published in the Customize PokerTracker section, and the Tutorial: Custom Reports and Statistics explains the sort of things you can do with custom stats.

OK thanks, I look forward to that. I did check out the sample stats and some of them are cool but I'd have to actually try it to see if it will give me what I want. Most people are hung up on a lot of stats that probably confuse more than they help, this thing if it lives up to its billing would let us do some sick things. However, I still don't want to pay 90 bucks to find out, so I'll wait for the PT4 trial ;)
