How to get database size under control?

Postby C2Knuckles » Thu Oct 27, 2011 7:31 am

What can I do to make this smaller? Any tricks I don't know about? My PostgreSQL folder is a bloated 75GB.
I still have 10GB left on my HD but I can't even do housekeeping because I get an error message saying I've run out of hard drive space.

I tried exporting hands but I gave up after 38 hours, I can't wait 5 weeks to let that process finish up. I know I have a lot of hands in my db but isn't 75GB pretty damn big for a database?

Assuming you're playing full ring, that would be about 7.5 million hands. If that sounds like far more than you have, please take a look in the C:\Program Files (x86)\PostgreSQL\8.3\data\pg_log folder - there may be several very large text files in that folder. They can be safely deleted - but be careful, only files in the pg_log folder can be deleted. Deleting files in any other folder in the PostgreSQL directory could result in a completely unusable database that cannot be recovered.

It's 98% 6max, not FR.
Great, that's the kind of stuff I'm looking for, I'll remember that one. I have 5.84 GB in that folder, I'll just delete everything in there.

Is there anyway to see the total amount of hands in my db?

You can see that information on your summary tab. For 6Max the rule of thumb is 6G = 1 million hands (it's actually generally a little less but it makes the math easier).
